Job Description
As a Real World Evidence (RWE) Programmer at Novartis, you will be working with a vast amount of patient datasets on a daily basis. Your role involves independently developing, modifying, and debugging programming routines in languages such as SAS, R, or Python, as well as complex SQL queries to extract, clean, manage, and analyze large databases. You must be familiar with healthcare databases like healthcare claims, Electronic Medical Records, and Registries. Your primary responsibility is to program and validate Real World Evidence (RWE) dashboards using R and Shiny, along with conducting observational database SAS programming and statistical analysis aligned with Novartis RWE strategies under minimal supervision.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the development of programming using SAS or R and complex SQL queries to extract, clean, manage, and analyze large databases for health outcomes research.
- Collaborate with RWE Research Analysts to scope and design projects, translating study designs into algorithms for data extraction, analysis, and reporting.
- Conduct observational data analyses, data management, and statistical programming, including the development of RWE dashboards.
- Drive consistency and compliance with company standards for project documentation, ensuring quality review at various project stages.
- Support project timelines, alerting management to any risks related to deliverables and timelines.
- Interact with customers regularly to provide project updates, ensuring customer satisfaction.
- Present results, project summaries, and analytical techniques to customers, stakeholders, and internal audiences.
- Mentor and upskill junior team members and assist in the hiring process of new talent.
Qualifications Required:
- Bachelors degree with 5 years of experience as a programmer or data scientist in the pharma industry, or related discipline; or Masters degree with 3 years of experience; or PhD with 2 years of experience.
- Expertise in R packages such as Shiny, Rmarkdown, ggplot, plotly, data.table, and dplyr, along with version control tools like git or JIRA.
- Strong programming experience in SAS or R, SQL, and other statistical software, with interest in developing statistical, visualization, and analytical skills.
- Solid experience in statistical methods, SQL querying, and big data platforms.
- Understanding of organizational processes and ability to work cross-functionally with stakeholders.
- Strong communication skills and ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
