Job Description

You are a passionate and accomplished individual being sought to join the Database Performance and Operability team at Fanatics Commerce. As a Senior Cloud Database Engineer, your responsibilities will include:

  • Being the go-to expert for NoSQL DBs and staying updated with the latest developments in the NoSQL space.
  • Developing and maintaining working relationships with engineering leads across distributed teams to collaborate on initiatives.
  • Reviewing data models created by application teams.
  • Managing Cassandra and Scylla clusters with a focus on capacity management, cost optimization, high availability, and performance.
  • Working with large database clusters handling 1M+ IOPS in aggregate.
  • Creating automations to reduce toil, monitoring, and alerting.
  • Creating runbooks for alert handling.
  • Setting up backup and restore mechanisms.
  • Troubleshooting and resolving various issues related to nodes, table data, high load, connectivity issues, etc.
  • Being the on-call support engineer on a rotational basis.

Qualifications:

  • Overall 8+ years of experience in SQL and NoSQL databases.
  • Experience managing large-scale Cassandra and Scylla clusters with an in-depth understanding of architecture, storage, replication, schema design, system tables, logs, DB processes, tools, and CQL.
  • Experience with MySQL and/or Postgres databases.
  • Experience with installation, configuration, upgrades, OS patching, certificate management, and scaling (out/in).
  • Experience in setting up backup and restore mechanisms with short RTO and RPO objectives.
  • Experience with infrastructure automation and scripting using Terraform, Python, or Bash.
  • Experience working with AWS, with AWS Certification preferred.
  • Experience with monitoring tools like Grafana, Prometheus, New Relic, Datadog, etc.
  • Experience with managed Cassandra solutions (InstaClustr, Datastax Astra) is a plus.
  • Experience with Cloud-native distributed databases (e.g., TiDB, CockroachDB) is a plus.
  • Experience in planning, scheduling, and resourcing to deliver for OKRs and Keeping The Lights On (KTLO) deliverables.
  • Ability to mentor, develop talent, and drive technical excellence.
